The Federal Government has pledged to support the Imo State University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Omwago, with agricultural equipment, accessories, and grants.
Dr. Mohamed Abubakar, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, made this pledge when acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Eze, visited Abuja with his team.
Abubakar said, “Agriculture is of great importance and cannot be separated from environmental sciences, farming is no longer just about food, it is now a business and the basis for all other businesses.
“Previously, most of the foreign exchange and infrastructure revenues were generated through agriculture.”
Speaking further, the minister stressed that the ministry will work with the university to promote the country’s social and economic development, and promised to visit the institution before the end of his term.
Eze had earlier commended the minister and the administration staff for their commendable programs and achievements.
He said the state government’s dwindling resources and insufficient facilities had caused the university’s functioning to face serious challenges, adding that this explained their quest for help.
