The Irrigate Nigeria Project (INP) is an initiative launched by NASENI in partnership with the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund to tackle Nigeria’s food insecurity crisis. By transitioning from rain-fed agriculture to smart, year-round irrigated farming, the project aims to cultivate one million hectares, empower farmers, and stabilize food prices. Utilizing modern irrigation technologies, the initiative will enable three harvests annually, boosting productivity and contributing to economic growth.
The project focuses on four pillars: centralized irrigation systems, improved seeds and fertilizers, technical support, and a sustainable commercial model. Farmers will repay support through portions of their harvest, contributing to strategic food reserves for price stabilization, exports, and institutional sales. The initiative is projected to create millions of jobs, lift rural populations out of poverty, and integrate farmers into the formal economy.
The effort involves a Public-Private Partnership model, combining government resources, private sector expertise, and international collaboration. Bauchi State is leading the charge, with significant land allocated for the program. Smart technologies like solar-powered water pumps and automated irrigation systems will enhance efficiency and sustainability.
The project aligns with broader goals to strengthen food security, empower rural communities, and foster agribusiness growth in Nigeria.
