Davidorlah Farms, recognized for its leadership in pineapple production, has announced the allocation of 50,000 hectares of land to interested farmers within Nigeria. Amb. Olusegun Alabi, the CEO, shared details of this initiative during a press conference at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, highlighting the focus on engaging youths with a background in agriculture, specifically in pineapple cultivation.
The aim, according to Alabi, is to harness the agricultural sector’s potential to contribute to national prosperity. He promised comprehensive training and resources for 50,000 beneficiaries to ensure their success in pineapple farming. Alabi called on the Nigerian government to foster an environment conducive to business growth and the flourishing of the private sector.
Addressing Nigeria’s food security crisis, Alabi emphasized the need for government collaboration with experienced individuals and organizations in agriculture to provide strategic solutions. He outlined the program’s broader impacts, including the empowerment of 10,000 agronomists and 10,000 farm managers, and the creation of job opportunities in rural areas, thereby addressing poverty and youth unemployment.
The initiative is expected to enhance the pineapple value chain, benefiting transporters involved in distribution and promoting good agricultural practices (GAP) among farmers to achieve high-quality produce standards. Alabi committed to investing in infrastructure to support large-scale pineapple farming, aiming at reducing post-harvest losses and increasing supply chain efficiency.
