Bangolo, May 13, 2024 (AIP) – The messie agricultural cooperative society of Bangolo (SCAM-coop-ca) intends to make a strong contribution to food self-sufficiency in the Guémon region by increasing its production of essential foodstuffs.

“Our cooperative has diversified its activities by focusing on several types of food crops, especially with products that are generally consumed in our region and which, very often, are out of stock in our markets,” explained the president of Messie. , Doué Ange Danol, in an interview with the AIP, Saturday May 11, 2024.

According to Ms. Doué, SCAM-coop-ca, which previously specialized in the production and marketing of market gardening fruits, has added, since 2023, the cultivation of rice, corn and yams to the number of its activities.

Thanks to technical support from the National Agency for Rural Development Support (ANADER), the cooperative society has already harvested, in 2024, ten tons of yams, 100 tons of corn and 7,000 tons of rice.

To further increase its production, the president of the cooperative society pleads so that state structures and other possible benefactors can help them benefit from many more rice seeds, improved cassava cuttings and grant them agricultural machines.

Created in 2017, SCAM-coop-ca claims to date, according to its president, some 4,000 women across all four departments of the Guémon region.
