The Kenya National Farmers Federation (KENAFF) has launched its strategic plan for the year 2022 to 2026 that outlines the framework through which they will lobby and advocate for farmers issues.
KENAFFs Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mwenda Mailutha said the key areas that the strategic plan will focus on is sustainable agri-food system in Kenya among others.
“We want all Farmers to be involved in the value chain with the ultimate goal of influencing transformation and growth in the agriculture sector for enhanced food and nutrition security, improved income and better livelihood for farmers.
Speaking at Thogoto, Kikuyu, in Kiambu County during the launch of the plan, Mailutha further said that the KENAFF will also focus on health insurance for farmers by engaging with NHIF to ensure all members benefit from the UHC scheme as well as pension services
South African High Commissioner Kenya Mr MJ Mahlangu, who attended the event said that increasing agricultural productivity and the transformation are key to reaching the food security goal as well as improving the sustainability of agricultural production.
“In order to implement the tenets enshrined in the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) policy framework for agricultural transformation, wealth creation, food security and nutrition, economic growth and prosperity for all Kenya and South Africa signed an MOU aimed at strengthening cooperation in Agricultural matters,” Mr Mahlangu added.
Professor Kabura Ribu, KENAFF national chairman in his speech said that his organization continues to live on their core mandate of representing and also articulating the interest of the farmers of Kenya as the farmers’ voice.
“KENAFF shall always supports all government agenda with a bearing on enhancing farmers income and improving their livelihood,” professor Kabura said.
The 2022-2026 KENAFF strategic plan is segmented in various pillars namely Lobby, advocacy and policy action, enhanced member service, sustainable Kenya agri-food system, leverage the energy, enthusiasm of youth and women to drive value chain.
KENAFF has an elaborate organizational structure from Ward, sub county, County, regional economic blocs to National level in order to have a wide reach and leverage through mobilization and build capacity for Kenyan’s farmers.
