Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced that the state generated over N600 billion from agriculture and related industries in 2024.
This achievement, driven by public and private sector collaboration, highlights the critical role of agriculture in boosting the state’s economy.
Speaking at a meeting with Developing-8 (D-8) representatives in Minna, Governor Bago emphasized agriculture’s potential to ensure food security, reduce social vices, and address unemployment.
He advocated for the adoption of modern farming techniques, irrigation, animal husbandry, and aquaculture to sustain these gains.
Partnership with the D-8 Group
Governor Bago underscored the importance of collaborating with the D-8, a group focused on economic cooperation among developing nations.
He highlighted opportunities such as scholarships for PhD students and exchange programs at the D-8 International University in Hamadan, Iran.
Empowering the Youth
The governor also revealed plans for the second youth ministerial meeting, to be hosted in Nigeria, in partnership with the Minister of Youth Development.
The focus will be on entrepreneurship, vocational studies, and youth participation in commercial farming.
Additionally, Governor Bago proposed the nomination of a Niger State representative as the D-8 Youth Ambassador, aiming to enhance youth involvement in SMEs, education, and digital skills development.
This collaboration and investment in agriculture and youth empowerment underline Niger State’s commitment to economic transformation.
