The 16th edition of Morocco’s International Agricultural Fair (SIAM), the most outstanding agricultural event on the African continent, will be held in Meknes starting today, April 22, until April 28. Spain is this year’s guest of honor. 37 Spanish companies specializing in agricultural technology will be part of the event.
Organized by the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, this year’s SIAM focuses on “Climate and Agriculture: for Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems”. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, Luis Planas, will participate in a bilateral meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Sadiki.
SIAM is a forum for exchange and dialogue for sustainable agriculture, technological innovation, and international cooperation. It will be held on 12 hectares and offer 40 conferences. 70 countries and 1,500 exhibitors will be part of the event and 950,000 visitors are expected to attend.
This year, the fair will have a space called Agri-Digital to highlight the importance of digital technologies in agriculture. In addition, the area dedicated to local Moroccan products will be expanded. The Spanish pavilion, with a record participation of 37 companies, will include leaders in agricultural machinery, irrigation technology, fertilizers, seeds, and phytosanitary products.
European and African countries will also participate in fair, along with EU representatives in Morocco, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the Erasmus+ office in the country. The EU will organise meetings focusing on trade opportunities, trading conditions with the EU-27, agricultural value chains, and adaptation strategies in the face of water scarcity and climate change.
