Rabat – Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari has conveyed his country’s interest in deepening cooperation with Morocco in the agricultural sector.
Kyari made his remarks during a visit to Meknes, the host city of the 16 International Agriculture Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM).
During a press statement on the sidelines of SIAM, Kyari emphasized the importance of cooperation between Morocco and Nigeria, describing ties between the two countries as “long standing.”
“We are determined to enhance our bilateral agreements and cooperation protocols,” he said, expressing admiration for the progress made by the North African country in the agricultural sector.
Nigeria and Morocco have been committed to boosting bilateral relations at all levels, including in agriculture and energy.
In January, King Mohammed VI extended an invitation to Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Adelkunle Tinubu to visit Morocco.
The monarch extended the invitation during a phone call to discuss the development of bilateral relations between Morocco and Nigeria.
Ties between the two countries have been developing and have marked significant improvement following the announcement of the Nigeria Morocco gas pipeline in 2016.
The pipeline aims to promote regional integration as well as strengthening Africa’s energy security.
King Mohammed V and Nigerian officials have consistently stressed the importance of the project.
Last year in November, the monarch described the project a “strategic initiative.”
The pipeline is set to connect several countries in the region to benefit from Nigerian gas sources.
It will be 5,600 kilometers in length and is set to cross 13 African countries, covering the energy needs of a staggering 400 million people along the West African coast.
