OCP Group and its subsidiary OCP Africa have signed two agreements, with the Democratic Republic of Congo’s commodity trading and mining company Gecamines and the country’s Ministry of Agriculture respectively.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the Agribusiness Forum which took place from October 4-5 in Kinshasa, and aim to contribute to the development of the DRC’s agriculture.
OCP Africa announced the signing of the two agreements on X, formerly Twitter on Thursday, noting that the first agreement is between the OCP Africa subsidiary and the DRC’s agriculture ministry.
“The first agreement between OCP Africa and @minagri_rdc, embodies their joint commitment to sustainable and competitive agriculture in the country,” the post said.
According to One Africa Forum, the agreement covers “ten crucial axes for the holistic development of agriculture in the DRC,” the source added, emphasizing that the axes cover considerations for an overall agricultural policy as well as developing fertilizer formulations adapted to DRC’s soil and crops.
The second agreement with Gecamines reflects the two parties’ determination to contribute to the transformation of the Congolese mining industry and to boost and transform the agricultural sector, according to OCP Africa.
The partnership also aspires to develop a commercial farm covering over 1,000 hectares with an integrated value chain, including grain cultivation and poultry farming, said One Africa Forum.
The agreement is part of OCP Group’s goal to unlock Africa’s agricultural potential and assist the country in tackling challenges, including food insecurity.
The signing of the agreements came following OCP Africa’s participation in the 6th International Agriculture and Animal Resources Exhibition in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, which is taking place from September 29 to October 8.
During the event, OCP Africa has been sharing its expertise and reiterating its determination to continue supporting Africa’s agriculture development.
