Dormaa Central 2022 municipality’s top farmer Jacob Takyi said Wednesday that a lack of necessary equipment for farmers is hampering the growth of agriculture in the municipality.

He said the issue is a big perverse incentive that makes farming unattractive to young people.

Tukey told the Ghanaian News Agency (GNA) in Antwilifo, an agricultural community in the Dormar Central Municipality in the Bono region.

“Many farmers in the area continue to use primitive farming methods: cutlasses and pickaxes.”

“As a result, they are unable to expand their farming operations and transport produce from farm gates to marketing centers due to the unavailability of tricycles.”

He urged the government to be proactive in addressing challenges so that farmers can expand their farming activities and improve food productivity.

“At harvest time, large amounts of corn remain on the farm for weeks and sometimes months because there is no transport available to bring the produce to market,” Takyi said. “We need  tricycles to transport food and financial support to produce more food and ensure food security.”

He encouraged farmers in the area to establish groups or associations to act as advocates to promote their interests.
